ICF Home Plans Accommodate All Home Designs and Sizes

An insulated concrete form (ICF) home plan creates a house that looks just like one built from a wood-frame home plan. However, an ICF home has numerous benefits over a wood-frame house. ICF homes, like one built with Bautex Wall Systems, are more wind- and fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and healthy than wood-framed houses.

ICF homes are also more durable and lower maintenance than wood-framed houses. Furthermore, ICF construction is fast and simple, which saves homebuilders time and money.

ICF Home Plans are Adaptable to all House Styles and Sizes

The wonderful advantage of ICF construction is that it has the strength and flexibility to accommodate most any home size or style; therefore, there are many design options for ICF home construction. Also, ICF is simple to shape and cut and may include customized designs, such as cathedral ceilings, large openings, curved walls, long ceiling spans, and custom angles.

Converting a Wood-Frame Home Plan to an ICF Home Plan

ICF home plans are similar to wood-frame home plans, except that the walls of an ICF home plan are wider (12+ inches) than the walls of a wood-framed home plan (about 4.5 inches). Using a wood-frame home plan to build an ICF home (with its extra-wide walls) reduces room sizes and lessens the square footage. Ultimately, using wood-frame home plan to build an ICF home increases the cost per square footage of the house.

To maintain the original square footage of a wood-frame house plan, a designer or architect must increase the overall dimensions of the house, which will affect the design of the foundation and roof. Also, glazings will need wider jamb extensions to accommodate the greater wall thickness. It costs about $1000 to modify a wood-frame home plan to an ICF home plan.

Bautex Blocks Custom ICF Homes

Other than the width of the ICF walls, there are no limitations on designs for an ICF house plan. For example, Bautex ICFs have provided the wall systems for a variety of home plans, from a simple-practical design to a custom-modern design.

Why Choose Bautex ICF Home Construction

Bautex Blocks ICF construction produces homes that are wind- and fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and healthy. A Bautex Block home is also low maintenance, has superb durability, and is quick and easy to install, which all saves time and money.

Wind, Fire and Impact Resistance

  • The Bautex Blocks meet the FEMA 361 and FEMA 320 recommendation in storm zones with wind speeds of 250 mph
  • Bautex Blocks are fire-resistant with an ASTM E119 fire rating of four-hours, ASTM E84 values for flame speed of zero and smoke development of twenty. The Bautex Blocks also meet the NFPA 101 code

A Healthy Home

  • The Bautex AMB 20 air and moisture barrier prevent thermal bridges and condensation; both of which can cause moisture accumulation in the wall system. Moisture is the wall system can lead to unhealthy mold.
  • Bautex Wall System has zero percent volatile organic compound (VOC) content. VOCs can cause nose, eye, and throat irritations, headaches, nausea and harm to the kidney, liver and central nervous system.

Low Maintenance and Durability

  • Bautex Blocks are low maintenance and durable because they are termite-resistant and moisture-resistant so not susceptible to wood rot.

Saves Time and Money

  • The Bautex Wall Assembly saves time and money because it is a simple to install, lightweight panelized ICF wall system that stays in place. It also creates structure and continuous insulation in one product. Builders using the Bautex Blocks can count on fast and easy construction.
