How Structural Engineers Build Homes

Building a Central Texas Lake Home on a Budget

We have a unique story this month for our residential project spotlight featuring Juan Bujanos, who serves as the Director of Engineering for the Brownsville Public Utilities Board in Brownsville, Texas. Juan was first introduced to the Bautex Wall System a few years ago by our South Texas Business Development Representative while attending a hard hat tour and presentation for the Rio Grande Valley Credit Union project. He was immediately impressed with the structural and thermal properties of the Bautex Wall System. Soon after this event, Juan brought his construction crew to a Bautex training.

As the team lead for South Texas commercial projects for Brownsville PUB, Juan is involved with the construction of Motor Control Center buildings, which house one hundred plus thousand-dollar equipment. He chose to design these critical buildings using the Bautex Wall System because of the structural and thermal properties.

Juan shared, The structural properties and incredible.” Also, with Brownsville being so close to the coast, he knew that the Bautex Wall System has proven its strength, durability and resilience in extreme storm conditions and would protect the city’s investment in equipment for many years to come.

The Transition to Residential Construction

Juan is also a principal with JNB Engineering and works on both commercial and residential construction projects. Since Juan was already acquainted with the Bautex Wall System as a better alternative to build for commercial construction, he intuitively saw that it would benefit residential building projects, as well. Recently, Juan began building residential properties in Central and South Texas.

While designing a home for a friend who is in his retirement years and was desiring to build his forever home” in the Texas Hill Country, Juan shared information about the structural, thermal, sound mitigation and reduced maintenance benefits of the Bautex Wall System. After that talk, his friend said, Why aren’t you building my home with Bautex?” So, now they are!

This 2,415 square foot traditional home in the Marble Falls, Texas area is now well underway. The Bautex walls went up very quickly for this first-time crew, and now Juan is working to wrap this project up soon for his friend. As a structural engineer, long-term durability and windstorm resistance is important. With Bautex, Juan did not have to create any special design elements since the Bautex Wall System provided everything he wanted to achieve right out of the box. This really helped to keep this project under budget.

After the success of this first experience with Bautex on a residential project, Juan shared that he intends to continue building healthy, safe, comfortable and resilient homes using the Bautex Wall System well into the future. He and his crew are now working with other builders in the Central Texas area who want to use his experience to get started with their own Bautex projects. For Juan, Building with Bautex is a no brainer.”
